Primary Requirements

Applicants must be prepared to perform one movement of a standard instrumental solo concerto or any classical song or aria for which orchestral accompaniment is currently available in the United States. Contestant's repertoire is subject to approval of the Musical Director and Competition Committee. A $20 non-refundable application fee is due at the time of application. Eligibility

Previous 1st place winners of this competition are not eligible on that instrument. The competition is open to any instrumental or vocal student in grade six through twelve who is a resident of the following counties:
  · Illinois: Iroquois, Champaign, Piatt and Vermilion
  · Indiana: Warren, Fountain and Vermilion

Other Requirements

  • Applicants shall have up to ten minutes to perform at audition.
  • Applicants are encouraged to memorize their concerto or vocal solo, but this is not mandatory.
  • Applicants shall provide four copies of their solo part for the judges.
  • Title and Composer should appear on the first page and should be free of any personal identification of the soloist.
  • Applicants shall provide their own accompanist.
  • Applicant deadline is Saturday January 3, 2009.

Award

The Competition Committee reserves the right to limit the number of contestants. The selection of first, second and third place winners is at the sole discretion of the judges. The first place winner may be asked to perform with the Danville Symphony at a future concert.
